I do like this time of the year. It allows me the occasional flutter on the golf.
Golf is usually horridly competitive and a punter’s nightmare. But each year the Australian Open tends to be dominated by a marquee player and perennial Aussie hotpot Adam Scott.
It’s a pity I couldn’t get this eletter to you on Wednesday. In the past the winner of the Australian Open has tended to be said marquee player (Ian Poulter/Rory McIlroy) or Adam Scott.
It is with that in mind that I have Backed these two players. Better odds of course for Adam. I am writing this as the first day is underway.
I want to introduce you to the variety of methods we can use to Back more than one team, player or horse.
Fixed Stake Dutching
The concept is called Dutching. Here’s a fixed stakes look at the Australian Open…
Here a nominal £100 is risked on both players to offer us an equal return whoever wins.
Required Profit
Here I am looking to win a specific amount on both players – £100.
Variable Profit Dutching
This is the pièce de résistance. You can load profit on the player/team/horse/scoreline you fancy the most but almost ‘take out insurance’ on the nearest rival by creating a break even position.
I use specialist software for my VPD at Betfair.com and really do like this method.
At www.drt.club we use this strategy for Correct Scores, loading up profit on the scoreline you think is more likely to come in, and creating a break even on the danger scorelines.
There’s a free VPD calculator I can recommend – and you can find it here at www.idutch.co.uk.
Here is a quick look at me using the calculator to work out my stakes.
I’ve duplicated the Australian Open bet using the calculator.
The key is to use the Adj. Stake until you see in the Profit column a 0.00 (or as near as possible) on the near rival and the profit you want on the other selection.
I had to Adj. Stake -26 and -5 in order to create that profit spread for a stake of only £9.
I would heartily recommend you get to know Variable Profit Dutching.
Have you wanted to load profit on a specific horse but cover its nearest rivals? Well now you can!
Have you wanted to back two favoured race drivers in Formula 1 but break even on their nearest rival? Now you can!
Try it out. I love this method of Backing multiple outcomes.
Make sure you let me know how you get on!
Hello Clive,
Received an email from you today regarding Paul Bent, his betting bot book and the variant 6 strategy. I am interested but highly dubious about the claims. Firstly we are hit with a sales tactic ie only 25 copies available. Clearly this is untrue as it is always available for sale. Second the whole package is connected with Streetwise – a very dodgy outfit in my and others opinion. It is now sold via Canonbury – fair enough. The sales pitch claims a 14 day money back guarantee. Just how solid is this guarantee? £297 is a lot to pay. I cannot find any information on the web about success using Paul Bents information. Also nothing about variant 6 that is totally independent. That’s all really. Probably not for me as just no news about it to back up the claims. I would be interested in getting your thoughts and experiences.
Hi Clive, I have tried this calculator over the past couple of days, very impressive ! Puts most other calculators to shame.
