Are you armed and ready for the Grand National? Here is  my shortlist of horses following the patterns of previous winners.

I have shortlisted horses by weight ( below 11 stone) , avoiding the favourite, horses at 33/1 or lower ( no consistent winners over 33/1),horses aged 8 or 9, and a special dispensation for Rachel Blackmore that girl’s got the Midas Touch ( literally in winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup!)

This leaves me with the following horses for the Grand National:

  • Minella Times – the mount of Rachel Blackmore
  • Good Boy Bobby – 25/1 currently
  • Discorama – was 33/1 ( hence qualifying at time of writing) but currently 40/1
  • Enjoy D’allen – 14/1
  • Mighty Thunder – 33/1
  • Eclair Surf – 12/1
  • Fortescue – 28/1
  • School Boy Hours ( reserve). – 33/1

All backed each way. Wheelbarrow waiting in the wings to collect.

Good luck with your plays! Naturally , of course, there will be a pile up at the first fence where 6 of my runners will all be fallers and I’ll be chinned on the line by an outsider! Ahh the joys of the National.

This is the last remnants of the Jumps season. In following eletters, we will be looking at the unique aspects of the Flat Race season, from the Classics to middle distance races, to the youngsters , to the sprint distances, the draw bias and much more besides.

In the meantime, I hope you find the National winner. You’ll probably have better luck than me by just opening the race card, closing your eyes, and sticking a pin in the race card ( note do not do it on your PC Screen!!).
