It’s not quite the same without the crowds is it, but the racing has been spectacular if a little favourite oriented.

A couple of pointers.

In the big field handicaps, get your betting head on. Go large! Large odds I mean.

It seems to be the case that 16/1, 25/1, 33/1, even 50/1 winners are the norm, so don’t be shy to have a good old fashioned punt on a biggie or two. I would even advocate a couple of 20/1,s and a couple of 33/1’s each way, and then simply get the prayer mat out and hope….

Elsewhere, there is a technique I would like to show you which will exploit any Envoi Allen falls.

In the Marsh Novices Chase there were 8 runners.

That should immediately pique your interest. 8 runners = 3 places for each way betting. Only 5 horses for your selection to beat.

At the head of the market was Envoi Allen.  A 4/9 favourite. The second favourite was priced at 9/1

A top heavy market and good news for each way thieves because the 4/9 odds will naturally inflate the odds of the remaining horses.

Get this Envoi Allen beaten and you are almost guaranteed a double figure odds winner.

What happened in this race?

Envoi Allen fell.

The 4/9 favourite is out of contention.

I go a little further myself and always select 2 of the remaining horses each way to increase my chances of, if not a win, at least a return. I usually chose my selection from near the head of the market and another more speculative selection near the outsiders. The final result speaks for itself.

This is my go-to each-way technique and I have had some good winners with it, and an awful lot of 2nd and 3rd placed horses which should be embraced for the each way punter.

Good luck on the last day and don’t forget to think big for the big handicaps at Cheltenham!
