Wimbledon begins next week ( Come on Tim, I mean Andy, sorry I meant Kyle ( and our Heather). I would recommend you look at summer tennis, particularly the Grand Slams.

Here’s a strategy which had a near 100% strike rate at the French Open. It is unique to men’s Grand Slam tennis.

Here is an example. See if you can spot the strategy…

This is a screenshot from www.flashscore.com and has a lot of information for us to unpack.

Here’s what you should be noticing from the above match up

  • Underneath the players’ names are the rankings . ATP 33 for Taylor Fritz and ATP 59 for Koepfer. This infers a tight match.
  • In the match summary section of flashscore.com you will see the number (30) against Fritz’ name but no number next to Koepfer. This tells us that Frtiz is a seeded player , playing an unseeded player
  • Pre-match odds indicate the market’s fancy – Fritz at 1.44
  • And finally…the score. What’s this? Koepfer wins the first set. Koepfer wins the second set.

Hmmm. That’s not what was expected. A 0-2 set lead for an unseeded underdog v the seeded favourite.

Time for you to make some money.

You can do one of two things:

  • Either back the favourite Fritz in the match odds market at enhanced odds.
  • Or lay Koepfer in the match odds market leading 0-2.

You see, men’s Grand Slam tennis is the best of 5, first to 3 sets. So…Fritz simply must win the 3rd set or he’s never win enough money to afford some strawberries at the next grand Slam at Wimbledon!

Lo and Behold. 0-2 turns into 1-2!!

At this stage, you can cash out of your back of Fritz or lay of Koepfer. It is up to you whether you want to stay in the match and hope for a 2-2 for Fritz. On this occasion that would not have been profitable.

You now have a template which had a 100% strike rate in the early rounds at the French Open.  What do you have on your side? Quite simply , the favourite 2-0 down must win the next set. He simply must!

So, to summarise

  • Favourite
  • Preferably seeded v unseeded
  • 2-0 sets down
  • Get involved
  • Look for the inevitable 2-0 to 2-1
  • Cash out and take profit
  • Focus on the early rounds of matches where there are a lot of seeded v unseeded players.
