The highlight yesterday must have been the backing of Manchester City at odds of 4.5 when 1-2 down to Southampton. There was a strange air of calm as I loaded in at 4.5, an air of inevitability about Manchester City winning, and at odds which were much better than pre-match.

Interesting to watch the Chelsea match. What was I saying about new signings? That guy Hazard was the difference between Wigan and Chelsea yesterday and those 2 early goals finished off Wigan.

Not your typical 0-0, 1-0, 1-1 scoreline because of the new signing!

Real Madrid struggled at home again against top 4 opponents. This was flagged up in the research, and had you treated the 1.28 as a lay to nothing, then it would have proved profitable. Real Madrid will revert to type against other than Valencia, Barcelona or osasuna I suspect.

Werder Bremen in over 2.5 goal shocker! Again research pointed to a Preussen side adept at not losing in the German Cup in 90 minutes. Well, they did it again, with a 2-2 90 minute draw.

It’s getting a little worrisome for PSG, all that dough spent and only 2 draws so far. Yesterday a 0-0. But it did end the sequence of 5 consecutive score draws for PSG. That said, 6 consecutive draws will not be tolerated. Expect a response next match.

I expected Dundee United to win, but not as convincingly. Gil Vicente are a team to watch at home. Wigan like dour defensive football kept Porto to 0-0. An improvement for Porto from the 1-3 loss last term.

AZ Alkmaar indeed scored 3 as I flagged up in a comfortable home win.Ajax surprised as they were relatively high odds away from home , and won 1-6.

Dinamo Moscow ended their barren drought with a goal yesterday.

All in all the research proved very accurate , albeit with little to work on .

7pm – Galatasaray v Kasimpasa – 1.43 home – only 3 defeats in 2012 for Galatasary and 2 of them were 0-1. First match of the season for both these sides and Kasimpasa are a promoted side. No real angles in at all in a league in which I know little. Champions , at home, against newly promoted should be only 1 thing?

730pm – Jahn Regensburg v B Munich – 1.18 away – all of the other top flight teams have been around 1.04 away in the German Cup, so this represents a big price relatively speaking for Bayern Munich. It might also signal a possible change in personnel for this German Cup fixture. Home side are Bundesliga 2 side I think. 2 1-1 90 minute draws and a 1-3 home loss to Mgladbach. In the 2 1-1 draws, Jahn went out in extra time .

Bayern have only lost 4 matches since 2004 in the German Cup, the last a 5-2 defeat to Dortmund.

13 wins, 2 0-0’s ( won after extra time) and 2 defeats in last 17 for Bayern.

I know nothing about Jahn or the bayern team news.

8pm – Everton v Man Utd – 1.91 away –  a tough opener for Man Utd this evening.

9pm – Barcelona v Sampdoria  – 1.38 home – a friendly and Barca played last night so expect a different side tonight unless the manager has some death wish over this season. Very strange fixture.

In comes Miralles from Olympiakos, Piennar from Spuds, Naismith and Jelavic from Rangers, Darren Gibson, and Landon Donovan from LA galaxy. Plodders I’d call most of them. Jelavic could be a real threat to Everton now permenantly transferred.

Jack Rodwell is out, and Tim Cahill is out – both big misses.

Van Persie and Kagawi 2 big big signings for United. 0-1 in the corresponding fixture last season to United. It has the feel of being similar doesn’t it tonight? A tough opener for United.

Angles in? Perhaps try backing 0-0 as a back to lay trade. This is a tricky one of course because of the new signings. We need to see the teams first -look what happened over the weekend. When United failed to score last season, away, they lost ( 3 occasions). This hints at 0-0, 0-1, 1-0 but I remind you it’s the first match of the season and perhaps a delay and react tactic will be more prudent.
