Profit of Course review

Though Profit of Course is yet another product in the long list of mostly mediocre products form Circle Media, this tipping service for use in UK and Irish horse racing is at least based on an entirely original concept.

It’s something that I personally have never seen before in a tipping service, and I don’t think the rest of the team have seen anything quite like it either.

Headlined ‘Discover how countless punters worldwide are making a small fortune each month with our elite betting advisory service’, the discovery in question behind the Profit of Course system is that all the selections are made through an in-depth knowledge of the 60 race courses throughout the UK.

The team behind Profit of Course state: ‘There are sixty racecourses in Great Britain. If you take a look at any of them or compare, it may not look obvious, but you’ll realise the diverse nature of each of them, some may be similar but each race course has its own characteristics.’

This is a factor that never really crops up in tipsters’ methodologies when comprising lists of selections – at least not to my knowledge. Much is made of trainers, jockeys, horses’ form, and weather, but the actual intricacies of the various courses in the country can be overlooked.

Thought-provoking stuff and they’re only just scratching the surface with these variables – there are probably hundreds of others.

There’s no name behind the Profit of Course tipster(s), but we’re told that he/she/they ‘are a team of racing enthusiasts with over 25 years experience in the racing industry’. It’s also said that they ‘have expert knowledge and have amassed heaps of historical data and statistics on all 60 individual courses in the UK…’

Price for subscription to the service is £19.95 per month or £54.95 per quarter (plus VAT in the UK and with a 60-day money-back guarantee via Clickbank [although their FAQ page incorrectly says it’s a 30-day one]).

Signing up is a laborious process, but at least with this (newer) product, Circle Media seem to have done away with clouting the purchaser with a seemingly never-ending array of upsells immediately after purchase.

Tips are sent out daily Monday through Sunday via email, arriving in your in-box normally no later than 11.00 a.m.

More analysis goes into the selections than just the race-course details and stats, including form ratings and supposedly looking for value bets. The number of tips varies from 1 to 5, with some days having no bets at all (you’re informed of this when it happens).

The bets are predominantly win back bets, but the odd lay bet is also thrown in. Staking advice is offered, normally 1 point per bet (sometimes more) with 1 point being equal to 3% of your betting bank.

In our trial we made 94 bets and 27 of them provided a return to the bank. This gave a strike-rate of 28% and we ended the trail with only 2 points profit.

This 28% strike-rate is nearly in-line with what the Profit of Course website and the results page claim – a strike-rate between 30 and 35%.

However, this is considerably less than the ‘consistent strike rate of around 55–65%’ they talk about in their FAQs.

If they’re aiming for 55–65% but only getting 30–35%, then they’re underperforming even by their own standards.

This is probably one of the better Circle Media products, as it felt that there was something of substance behind it, but if it’s only making a few points profit per month, you’re going to be out of pocket when you factor in the subscription fees and time spent.
